When you think about it, besides the kitchen, the laundry room is one of the most used rooms in a home. We tend to spend more time in there than we would like and many homeowners are embracing it by making this space stylish yet multi-functional. Sometimes home layouts incorporate these laundry rooms with a powder room, guest bath, or even a drop zone as well. It could be somewhat embarrassing to host guests at your home and have clutter laying all over this space. That being said, there are many different stylish ways and designs to create better storage solutions for these spaces.
Maximizing Your Storage Space
The laundry room can be a great place to add additional storage to your home. If space allows, try to maximize the number of cabinets you can add to this room. If you have a front-loading washer and dryer, it allows you to add upper cabinets above your appliances as well as a counter space. Also, you could add cabinetry to the other walls beside your washer/dryer wall. Taller pantry style cabinets would be able to hide your cleaning supplies and other cleaning equipment, such as your vacuum and broom. While smaller base cabinets could house shoes, linens, and/or other small items.
Make it Multi-Functional
Other uses of laundry room type spaces could be incorporated with a home office or craft room. You could add a small desk unit with cabinets to hold all of your crafting or home office supplies. Think of designing this space where it can serve as your family’s command center; maximizing the opportunities for storage of backpacks, shoes, and other items that families need on a daily basis.
Beauty is in the Details
Maybe you say to yourself, "well this is just a laundry room, how nice could it possibly look?" Just because a laundry room is a space based more on utility, that doesn’t mean you can’t make it stylish and beautiful! Take some time to browse different cabinet designs and options, and think about a fun look with different paint colors and shining finishes! Also, perhaps adding moldings to the cabinets will elevate the style and appearance of the space! Maybe we could add some ship-lap for an extra accent to wall or in between the upper and lower cabinets! You can really have fun with this room and take chances you wouldn’t take in other areas of your home!
